What we can show today
These figures describe the first planting in Žabalj. They are not a survival count or a forecast for future sites.
This is the original planting count, separate from our current survival estimate.

02 / WHAT A NUMBER MEANS
Planting is the start. Survival takes time to measure.
We record each plant when it goes into the ground. Only later site visits can tell us how many have survived. We report these figures separately.

Before planting
We record the location, area, species plan and soil preparation.

On planting day
We count the plants by species and document the date and site.

During aftercare
We photograph changes and record weather challenges, watering, mulch and any replacements.

Checking survival
After a field check, we will report living, lost and replacement plants separately, along with the date.
Current estimated survival: around 80%.
After the first growing season, despite frost and drought, our field estimate is that around 80% of the original planting survived. We will publish the exact living plant count, census date and method in a detailed field report. Replacement plants will be recorded separately from the original planting.
What happened after planting day
Frost
Our first forest has been through frost. We check it on site and do not claim that every plant survived.
Dry spell
Dry weather reminded us how important early care is. We record where extra attention is needed.
Mulch and visits
We keep returning to mulch and tend the site long after planting day.
04 / SUPPORT AND COSTS
Follow the funding, too.
Individual donations are not available yet. We plan to open them after the Džepne šume association is registered. This site does not currently take payments, so we do not show an invented donation total or spending chart. When we publish a financial report, it will separate funds received from the costs of preparing the site, saplings, planting, care and documentation.

The same open record for every new section.
For each new section on our land in Žabalj, we will record the area, species plan, support goal, planting date, number planted, photos and later survival data. Our aim is to grow the existing 250 m² towards one hectare. We will clearly mark figures that are not yet available.
